Crack Cocaine Addiction

Crack cocaine is a free base form of cocaine that is smoked.  This form of cocaine starts off as pure cocaine, but is mixed with things such as water and baking soda and is melted to form a hard, rock like substance.  The name crack cocaine was given to the drug when people who made the drugs always heard a cracking sound when they heated the drug to get it into its rock like state.  Crack cocaine is the only form of cocaine that is able to be smoked and its effects can take effect on the brain in as little as 8 seconds after your first hit.

Some effects that crack cocaine has on the mind immediately can include: euphoria, supreme confidence, insomnia, loss of appetite, alertness, increased energy, paranoia, and cravings for more and more cocaine.  As for the body, there are effects that take hold in minutes as well.  Some effects on the body include, but are not limited to: constricted blood vessels, dilated pupils, and increased temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure.  All of these effects can be visibly seen, so if you think that someone you love and care for are having problems with crack cocaine addiction, start by looking for these visible signs.  It is never to soon to get someone with a crack cocaine problem into treatment, but if you wait for them to be ready, they may end up dead due to an over dose or from getting the a bad dose of crack cocaine.  Start by planning an intervention where you and some other loved ones can sit and talk to the crack cocaine addict and help them get into one of our addiction treatment programs.  We can help even some of the worst crack cocaine cases change for the better, with just a little commitment from you and your loved one addicted to crack cocaine.
